Even with the mare inspections in the breeding districts still ahead by deadline, breed director Dr.Thomas Nissen has already had a first impression of the age group born in 2013, as several mares likely to earn a ticket to Elmshorn at the mare inspections have been performance tested. “The age group is again promising some exceptionally typey mares and many horses with great movement.” Mares by Casall and his sons, Cascadello I and Casalito, have made quite a splash in the performance tests. Former National Champion Catoo seems to confirm his qualities as a sire, as well. Young sires like Uriko should be represented with female offspring at the mare show same as outside blood improvement stallion Zhivago, a stallion those breeding for dressage put high hopes in. The best 3-year-old mares of the country are shown on the triangle on 8 June, and at about noon we will know who is to succeed last year’s exceptional champion mare, Elypsa by TB sire Armand.
22 foals to be auctioned
The foal auction is scheduled for 8 June, day two of the Holsteiner Horse Days. 22 selected colt and filly foals are expected to enter the auction ring. Prospective buyers may not only expect offspring by proven sport stallions, but also foals by young sires have proved convincing to the selection panel (Sigrun Günther, Ove Asmussen, and Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs). Verband stallion Casall has the most foals consigned to this auction. The Caretino son demonstrating exceptional form under Rolf-Göran Bengtsson on the international jumping scene yet again, is being represented by four fillies and one colt foal. For prospective buyers this could be a great chance for participation in the stallion grading or elite mare show two or rather three years on, as Casall has definitely demonstrated his ability to produce stallion grading, mare show, and of course show jumping champions. Other highly successful current or former sport stallions are Carembar de Muze (London), Clarimo, Comme il faut, Cornet Obolensky – just recently on everybody’s lips at the World Cup final -, Kannan or Quintero. 6-year-old Crumble, a serial winner of young jumper classes, is represented by one foal. Cascadello I, now with his first S level placing under his belt, has already produced a brilliant champion, as well. Represented by one foal at the auction, the 7-yearold’s produce includes Charleston, in 2015 the best stallion at Neumünster. “The young stallions guarantee the breeding progress“, said Norbert Boley, managing director of the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping limited company, Elmshorn. Offering foals by Adagio de Talma, the sire of the top-selling foal at last year’s Behrendorf foal auction, Barcley, Casaltino, Dinken or Quiran, the Elmshorn foal auction is focusing on sires the Holsteiner breed is putting high hopes in.
Looking for the State Champions
For some years now, the dressage and show jumping State Championships have been held at Elmshorn. On 7 and 8 June the promising youngsters will compete at the Holsteiner Horse Days under Schleswig-Holstein’s top riders. Horses may be shown in 3- and 4-year-old ridden classes selecting participants for the Warendorf Bundeschampionat, dressage horse classes at A through M level as well as (young horse) show jumping classes at A, L, M, and S level with horses competing for 5- and 6-year-old State Champion in dressage and show jumping as well as 7-year-old Show Jumping State Champion.
After Behrendorf, the Fritz-Thiedemann hall offers dressage riders with 5- and 6-year-old horses a second opportunity for earning points towards the Dressage Horse Cup final held at the Bad Segeberg State Horse Show. The partner and business circle Holsteiner Masters, committed in particular to training and advancement of young Holsteiner jumping horses, will be in the boat as well. The breeders of the five-, six-, and seven-year-old show jumping champions will be rewarded with 1000 euros each. The breeder must be present and accept the cheque in person, however, otherwise the prize is forfeit. Moreover, there is another special treat for the six-year-olds with the top three in the 6-year-old championship qualifying for the Holsteiner Masters Zukunftspreis at the Baltic Horse Show.
