65 licensing aspirants will be presented at the 13th edition of the Southern German Stallion Show at the Olympic equestrian centre in Munich Riem, which features the licensing, DSP gala and auction and takes place from 28 to 30 January 2016. The collection of the main licensing of the German Sport Horse (Deutsches Sportpferd, DSP) includes stallions with international genetics as well as sons of highly successful sires standing at stud in DSP breeding areas: Gestüt Birkhof’s Southern German premium stallion Lord Leopold, whose descendants delivered a brilliant performance at the 2015 championships, will be represented by two offspring in Munich. Millennium, state stud sire at Moritzburg, whose excellent progeny regularly make an impressive appearance at numerous licensing venues, will have two sons in the running as well. The now seven-year-old Captain Future Z, who used to stand at stud at Station Holzeder, was highly successful at S-level show jumping with Richard Groom in the last season. Captain Future Z will present two sons from his first crop of foals at the licensing. The Holstein reserve champion Cascadello I, in possession of Gestüt Fohlenhof in Hassloch, also presents himself with two sons from his first crop in Munich. The largest contingent in the lot is by KWPN stallion Ampère: the bay son of Rousseau managed to get five of his sons into this year’s collection! He is followed by the stallions of the F-line, i.e. For Romance and Fürstenball, with three sons each. EM team gold medal-winning Johnson will add two of his sons to the lot. The famous Q-line from Neustadt is represented by one direct descendant of Quaterback and one of his son, the Neustadt licensing winner, Quatergold.
This year’s licensing will also see the comeback of six Southern diamonds from the lot of the 2013 elite foal auction: descendants of Damon Hill, Danone, Johnson, Lord Leopold and Coronas will find themselves once more in the limelight of a DSP event. The lineages of this year's show jumping collection are a most interesting read as well: one offspring of diamond stallion Colestus, two sons of Diarado, one son of Flipper D’Elle, Toulon, Nabab de Reve, Zirocco Blue and Viscount each, and other stallions with very interesting pedigrees will present themselves at the licensing.
The restructuring of the licensing arena will mean quite a lot of changes particularly for visitors. On the other hand, it provides the stallions with more space and quietness. In 2016, the jumping stallions will no longer be presented on the lunge rein but can be scrutinised more closely while running loose for a longer time on Thursday. Their specialist discipline, the loose jumping, will take place on Friday afternoon. The dressage stallions will already do their loose jumping on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Spectators are welcome!
